Lunga village. Thereby he got musical instruments which were used by village orchestra: reed pipe of
beech (kaval), Bulgarian type drum (doba or daul), violin with three string of mutton sinew (kauş),
woodwind instrument made of leather bag with three opening (gayda).
«paralä sofra» – upper part of the wooden table, Bessarabia Gubernia, Bender district, Kirsovo.
Female neck, breast and waist adornments made a special group. They are necklaces of mother
of pearl (Sedef boncuk) or coral (mercan boncuk) with small silver cross, neck-decoration with one
Austrian coin and two medals with the sign “stamped in Constantinople” (left), and old leather belt
with metal plates(kolan)
«toprak düdük » - clay music instrument. Craftsman – G. Stomatov. Komrat (town).
Moreover P.A. Shumanskyi gained separate costume details: manufacturing multi-coloured
scarves and female “Turkish” belt made of leather with plated copper (brass) inlets and fixed with the
hook. This belt was the important part of the bride’s costume.

Peter Andreevich Shumanskyi a local historian gave a great aid in the collecting the Gagauz objects.
He purchased two collections for the museum. In 1911 he gathered a small, but diverse collection of
material and spiritual culture objects of the Gagauz in Bessarabia province, Bender district Cheadir-

In 1912 for the museum P.A. Shumanskyi gathered small collection of Easter eggs in Kherson
province, Tiraspol district, village Lunga. Painted eggs (pisanki) are decorated with zoomorphic and
ornitomorphic (bird’s heads) ornament.
