The summer season is here and it is the time when temperatures soar . Parts of our country are already experiencing high temperatures and , with that , comes the danger of heatstroke . Learn how to recognise the signs of heatstroke and what to do if you or a family member experience any of the symptoms .
What is heatstroke ? Heatstroke is one of the most serious heat-related conditions . It is a condition caused by your body overheating , usually because of prolonged exposure or physical exertion in high temperatures . Heatstroke can occur if your body temperature rises to 40 ° C or higher .
Heatstroke requires emergency treatment as it can damage the brain , heart , kidneys and muscles quickly . The damage worsens the longer treatment is delayed , increasing your risk of serious complications or death .
Who is at risk ? Engineers and street vendors are more likely to be affected , anyone is at risk but people who are more exposed to the heat like construction workers , children , the elderly and athletes also run a high risk .
