Fitness tips for the season
As we move from winter into spring, it’ s the perfect time to shake off the cold and revisit our fitness goals. After indulging in all the hearty soups and comforting meals winter has to offer, it’ s natural if exercise took a back seat. Remember those days you laced up your takkies to go for a jog, only to rush back indoors the moment the icy breeze hit? We’ ve all been there. But now, with the promise of sunnier days ahead, it’ s time to get up, get moving and try again.
Here is how to get back in shape

• Take it slow: Don’ t increase your weight, time, speed or intensity more than 10 % per week
• Keep your expectations in check: Fitness takes time. You won’ t get back into shape overnight, patience and consistency are key
• Listen to your body: Never push through sharp or unusual pain. If something doesn’ t feel right, take a break and seek advice if needed
• Enlist a buddy: Doing any kind of exercise with a friend will increase your motivation and help you stay committed
• Outdoor running: A great way to enjoy the spring weather while getting fit
• Cycling: A low-impact workout that is excellent for cardiovascular health and is easy on the joints

• Spring cleaning workout: Turn spring cleaning into a workout. Try some squats while you’ re picking up items off the floor or lunges while vacuuming
• Yoga: Yoga is a wonderful way to reduce stress, improve flexibility and build strength. Try a classic class or something new, such as aerial yoga
• Boot camps: Boot camps offer high-intensity workouts designed to push your limits and improve your fitness level
Tip for next year: Try to keep moving throughout winter. Don’ t stop, don’ t tire, don’ t quit! That way, you will not have to start all over again in spring.
