Can you believe that we are already two months into the new year ? 2025 is set to be a challenging year in South Africa . With threats of rolling blackouts , rising interest rates , increases in electricity and fuel , not to mention the rate of exchange , the economic climate remains tough . However , I am confident that we will rise above these challenges and continue to deliver innovative medical aid benefits and services .
2025 has been dubbed ‘ Twenty-Twenty-Thrive ’ with a personal commitment to prioritising our physical , mental and emotional wellbeing . The idea is to make healthy choices and lifestyle changes to flourish and reach our full potential . With this in mind , we ’ re sharing some insights on pages 6 to 14 on what you can do to thrive – from adopting healthy eating habits at work to maintaining realistic health goals .
When finances are stretched , understanding and optimising your medical aid benefits has never been more important . One of our key aims is to help give you more value for money and keep you on a path to wellness . With a little planning and awareness , you can make your benefits go further and reduce out-of-pocket expenses . On pages 21 and 22 we share some tips on how to take charge of your medical expenses and maximise your medical aid benefits .
On the 24 March , we observe World Tuberculosis ( TB ) Day . It ’ s a time when we amplify public awareness about this global epidemic and the efforts being made to eliminate the disease . It is distressing that TB remains the cause of thousands of deaths every year , in
South Africa and the rest of the world . Yet it is preventable and curable . On pages 25 and 26 we take an in-depth look at TB and share some info on how we can manage this epidemic .
In line with our promise of providing affordable , quality healthcare through all life stages , we celebrated Pregnancy Awareness Week during February . The week focused on educating members about pregnancy and promoting safe motherhood . One of the key aspects highlighted this year was antenatal care , as it allows for the early detection and management of potential complications during pregnancy . On pages 15 and 16 we highlight the importance of antenatal vitamins and supplements as part of antenatal care .
