We are just over two months into 2024 and I ’ m extremely proud of our product offering and how it contributes to our commitment of providing affordable , quality healthcare for all South Africans . I also want to reiterate that you , our members , are our priority – you are the core of our business .
Looking at the economic climate , we know the challenges facing South Africans this year will be similar to those experienced in 2023 . It is vital that you manage your medical expenses correctly to avoid out-of-pocket payments and limit the possibility of running out of benefits before year end . From page 29 to 30 we share some tips of how to do this and to make the most of your benefits .
Going into 2024 , I ’ m extremely enthusiastic about our partnership with Gift of the Givers . The partnership will continue to have a positive impact in the field of healthcare , with various interventions planned for the year . With an additional investment of R3.3m , the projects include bursaries to final year medical students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the provision of boreholes at various health facilities across the country . You can read more about these initiatives from page 13 to 14 .
Autumn has a certain charm . The leaves begin to change colour and the air becomes a little bit cooler . Although these conditions make it easier to retreat and spend less time outside , it is important to stay active and take care of yourself . Why not embrace the beauty of the season and cooler air and focus on your own wellbeing ? From pages 20 to 24 we provide some inspiration on how to achieve this .
World Hearing Day is observed on 3 March . We are totally supportive of this awareness initiative , as hearing loss affects more than 3 million South Africans and over 1.5 billion people globally . One of the biggest concerns associated with hearing loss , when it is not treated properly , is the long-term impact on quality of life . Prevention and early detection are important , because hearing is the foundation for speech and language development , as well as learning and communication . Read more about our free online hearing screenings and our Audiology Benefit Management Programme on page 26 to 28 .
