Summer 2014

Kids
This group intensive is aimed for 5-7
year olds to develop and strengthen
problem solving, motor planning
and social skills. At the beginning of
each session, the group will be
presented with an enticing
challenge. As a group they need to
come up with a solution and execute
their plan to solve the problem. The
goal of the group is to foster and
further develop motor planning
skills (praxis).
Praxis skills (also known as motor
planning) is comprised of four
components (1) ideation (coming up
with an idea), (2) planning, (3)
execution, and (4) sequencing. The
foundations of praxis rest in the
outcomes of central nervous system
and the child’s ability to process
sensory stimulus and accurately
respond to their ever-changing
environment. The two lead
occupational therapists will integrate
sensory integration strategies to
increase the individuals’ functional
state of arousal and better support
their ability to connect with their
peers and further build peer
interactions, social problem solving
and motor planning skills through
fun and motivating challenges! The
goal is for the individual to connect
with their peers and ultimately
achieve a genuine sense of
accomplishment.
