INTRODUCTION
Bridge 794004 is located on Main Street over the Halifax River / Intracoastal Waterway in Daytona, Florida. The bridge is over the intracoastal waterway and is not near the influence of any riverine flows. The primary sources of flows for this bridge are the daily tides and storm tides. The FDOT design storm surges for the New Smyrna Beach / Ponce de Leon Inlet were used for the 100-year and 500-year recurrence events( Executive Summary Design Storm Surge Hydrographs For The Florida Coast, September 2003).
The design storm surges provided by FDOT were merged with a simulated astronomical daily tide based on the mean low water and mean high water as recorded at USGS tidal gage station 8720587. All storm surge elevations are NAVD-88. See plots below for hydrographs used at the Ponce de Leon Inlet.
