During playback, you can solo one or more tracks. If you are a performing DJ, you can also preview tracks without the audience hearing. You can also purposefully delay tracks to compensate for delays introduced by hardware and other factors.
Ableton's effects are deep and wide. There is an amp plugin that emulates seven classic guitar amplifiers. You have control over the gain, which adjusts the input levels to the preamp. You also have control over the volume, which adjusts the output from the amplifier.
There are EQ controls with Bass, Mid-range and Treble knobs. Presence is another tone control that influences the crispness of the mid-to-high frequencies. A Dry/Wet control lets you adjust the ratio between the combined levels of the dry signals and processed signals. An auto filter emulates classic analog EQ filters with four filter types: low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and notch. For each filter type, you can adjust frequency and resonance.

There is an Auto Pan function that does many things, including modulating the amplitude of the right and left stereo channels in relation to each other. There is a Beat Repeat feature that lets you vary the repetition of an incoming signal by controlling the interval and feedback level of the delay effect. Every common effect plugin you would expect is present as well, including Chorus, Compression, Sidechain Parameters, Filter Delay, Flanger, Frequency Shifter, Limiter and Looper, to name a few.
