FOREWORD From Martin Walker
INCLUDED IN THE SEPTEMBER- OCTOBER ISSUE OF AYCLIFFE TODAY BUSINESS …
/ 04 HOORAY HITACHI
Welcome to the September-October issue of Aycliffe Today Business – our 24th edition since launching nearly four years ago.
We continue to hear lots of good news reverberating around Aycliffe Business Park, most of which is echoed throughout our pages.
As the potential repercussions of Brexit continue to loom large, it seems everyone is getting on with business, and it remains to be seen what kind of impact leaving the EU will indeed have on Newton Aycliffe.
But there are lots of positive stories doing the rounds. Many businesses continue to flourish, continue to pick up contracts and continue to employ more staff.
Hitachi Rail Europe has already announced it plans to take on 150 more staff, in addition to the 730 or so it initially planned to employ – read more on page 4.
There’ s also good news for two of our steel firms on the park.
SCH Site Services has completed a 350-tonne project working on intu Metrocentre’ s new Qube II extension( page 17) while Finley Structures has won a contract to build a second university building for leading major contractor BAM Construction – a 400-tonne project to construct the Sarah Swift building at the University of Lincoln( page 25).
AYCLIFFE TODAY BUSINESS
Aycliffe Today Business is Newton Aycliffe’ s only business publication, which is mailed exclusively to every company on Aycliffe Business Park.
Launched in November 2012, we provide firms with a unique platform to tell everyone about their services and success stories in our prestigious, high-quality publication.
Meanwhile, two financial firms are also exceeding expectations as they both continue to grow and create new jobs. You can see our special features with Certax Durham( page 23) and Eldon Financial( page 29).
There’ s also some exciting news for Aycliffe’ s oldest training provider, South West Durham Training, which celebrates its 50th year in 2017.
New chief executive Lee Childs has implemented a number of changes over the last 12 months at SWDT, and along with a £ 150,000 investment in refurbishments and IT, they’ ve enjoyed a timely boost in apprenticeship numbers ahead of the new academic year. You can see our feature interview and pictures with SWDT on pages 18 & 19.
I hope you enjoy this 24th edition of Aycliffe Today Business. More than 100 companies have used us as a marketing tool since our launch in November 2012 – and you can join the growing list by getting in touch with us today! See our contact details at the bottom of this page.
We’ ll be back in November with issue # 25 – the last of 2016.
