determined recruitment agency
who has put down firm roots on
Aycliffe Business Park.
Whurk Recruitment, based in St Cuthbert’s
House, is the brainchild of managing director
Laura Claughan.
Laura, 27 of Willington, Durham, said: “I have

worked in the industry for other recruitment
companies for 10 years. I could see there
was a gap in the market and wanted to bring
back strong relationships with candidates and
clients in order to find the right person for the
job.
“I used to often get clients and candidates
asking if I specifically could help them; and
one day I just thought I can do this and
decided to go it alone.
“It took guts to do it and make the move; but I
am so glad that I did.
”
Laura is on a mission to make Whurk
Recruitment stand out from the crowd in
being able to bring a fresh but traditional
approach to the sector.

and finding out what the candidate or the
client wants is crucial. We don’t just look at
streams of CVs, we actually work hard to
find the right personality that fits, it’s not just
about looking at pieces of paper.
”
Whurk Recruitment provides temporary and
permanent recruitment solutions in six key
areas including manufacturing, engineering
and technical, warehouse and distribution,
contact centre, business support and
executive search.
Laura started the company earlier this year
and has spent considerable time training her
team on a one to one basis so she could pass
on her own skills and knowledge in the sector.
Laura said: “Most of the team here don’t have
a recruitment background and that is what
makes us quite different. It was a deliberate
move to recruit staff who are focussed
on delivery in customer service and who
can bring their own high level of drive and
motivation to get the right result. I want staff
who will step away from the ordinary and
deliver extraordinary.
“It also means they have no pre conceived
ideas about the industry, they are able to bring
a fresh approach and I have been able to guide
them into the team I really want them to be.
”
