The magazine for Aycliffe Business Park | 3 INCLUDED IN THE MAY-JUNE 2018 ISSUE OF AYCLIFFE TODAY BUSINESS… WELCOME /05 JUDGEMENT DAY A panel of judges have had the unenviable task of picking out 11 winners from 52 nominations in Aycliffe Business Park’s fourth annual Make Your Mark awards competition… GUEST FOREWORD: from John Clare Welcome to the 34th issue of Aycliffe Today Business – the magazine for Aycliffe Business Park. I t was my huge honour (and a huge responsibility) to be one of the judges of Aycliffe Business Park’s Make Your Mark award nominations. Judging the categories was tremendously difficult. The achievements of ALL the nominees were outstanding. To be nominated for one of the awards is in itself an achievement to celebrate. And I know that ‘there can only be one winner’, but the judges were being asked to decide between extraordinary and awesome… between first-class and first- rate! How do you tell ten spectacular apprentices, all of whom have been judged exceptional by their employer, all of whom are already playing a significant role in the running of their company, and every one of whom is clearly just the nicest-of-people, that you have given the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award to someone else? How do you judge between a start-up business which has moved mountains in the first few months of its existence, and a multi-national company which is expanding exponentially? How do you choose between a number of companies which in that very category have already won awards at national and regional level? Yet that was our task. The results are now in. And in my opinion, the overall winner is Aycliffe Business Park and the residents of Newton Aycliffe and County Durham. We now look forward to the awards celebration night on Thursday May 24, with a brand new format which will encourage networking and celebrate all our businesses. /15 GDPAARRRGH!
