GUEST FOREWORD : from Simon Goon

Aycliffe Business Park Community marks its first year with relaunch event ...
It gives me great pleasure to write the guest foreword for the 29th issue of Aycliffe Today Business .
As many of you will be aware , I leave my role as managing director of Business Durham at the end of July after four years in the job .
I ’ m taking up a new position as chief operating office at Synoptica , an early-stage Artificial Intelligence company based in Guilford , Surrey . The vast majority of Synoptica ’ s growth will be in the North-East , so I ’ ll be based at Seaham , which means I ’ ll still be contributing to the wealth of the county .
It was a tough decision , because I really value the team at Business Durham and the work we ’ ve done over the last four years , the momentum we ’ ve built and the journey we ’ ve been going on . But it was one of those once in a blue moon opportunities , one I felt I couldn ’ t turn down , so I ’ m really excited about it .
We ’ ve seen huge progress being made here on Aycliffe Business Park over the last four years and some major developments , but I ’ ve also been really pleased to see the Aycliffe Business Park Community ( ABPC ) programme work . Business Durham played a big part in setting it up originally , and we ’ ve been delighted to see ABPC stand on its own feet in the last year .
A lot of its progress is down to a lot of people working very hard in the community , putting it on the map , and giving people a sense of belonging , and how to work together .
When I started my role with Business Durham , Aycliffe Today Business – like ABPC – was very much in its infancy . Again , we ’ ve been delighted to see it grow and flourish into a well-respected and popular publication , something I know is well received on the business park and beyond .
I think Aycliffe Business Park has an extremely bright future . We ’ re seeing businesses grow , and we ’ re seeing businesses want to relocate here . There are plans for future expansion and I can only see the park strengthening its position as the region ’ s biggest employment area in the years ahead .
I ’ d like to thank all businesses on the park who ’ ve always made me feel very welcome here , and wish everyone great success in the future .
