Businesses that choose the Emerald Biogas Energy Park as a base will also benefit from the company by receiving 100% renewable heat and power from the facility. “As the first commercial food waste anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in the North-East, we are always looking at ways to further improve, so expansion is a top priority, opening up new jobs is part of that and we also want to educate the local community about what we do and why it’s important, Antony ” tells us. Recently, Emerald Biogas has been featured in local press for their inspiring work in schools across the region, informing and explaining the importance of renewable energy and the impact that food waste is having on the globe. Although expansion plans are great news and the business is really helping the local environment, there’s a suggestion that fate may not have been on his side, many years ago. “I did my apprenticeship with Fujitsu for four years before it closed, when I moved to Panasonic and that shut down – looking back you could say I had something to do with it, but I wasn’t a curse, I promise!” he laughs. Today, Emerald Biogas Energy Park stands tall as it continues to quietly churn over tens of thousands of tonnes of waste a year, recycling it into renewable products which are safe for the environment and beneficial to the region. The company continues to plan its ambitious development project and is very keen to further spread the word throughout local schools and businesses.
