NEW
TECHNOLOGY
AT ROBINSON
ENGINEERING
By Rachel Wright
An established engineering firm is proving it
literally is at the cutting edge of technology
as it grows from strength-to-strength.
Robinson Engineering, which can be found
on Durham Way North, has almost 30
years’ expertise in quality subcontract sheet
metalwork and fabrication services.
The family-run firm, led by Arnold and his two
sons David and Brian, have invested in two
laser cutting machines, one a state-of-the-art
4kw Amada X1, allowing them to enhance
their capabilities and meet the demands of
customers.
Director David Robinson said: “Laser cutting
is the most efficient and cost-effective way
of cutting certain parts from sheet metal.
Our latest machine has allowed us to grow,
taking on bigger jobs that weren’t previously
possible and as a result new customers have
come to us which is just great.
“One of the machines is able to cut at up
to 10metres per minute which sets a high
Dave Robinson with Robinson Engineering’s
new state-of-the-art laser cutting machine
benchmark for speed of production for single
and for multiple parts.
“It’s amazing where the enquiries come
from, added David.
”
“To complement our laser cutters we have
recently acquired a state-of-the-art 6 axis
CNC press brake which means we can now
bend parts as accurately as we can cut them
out. We still provide all the traditional sheet
metal services, such as welding, tapping,
countersinking, etc.
”
“Most of our customers are here on the
park, or within a 20-mile radius, but now and
again something surprising comes along.
Robinson Engineering supplies hundreds
of thousands of parts each year for all kinds
of applications including the automotive
industry, making parts which end up on
Bentley, Lotus and Land Rover cars, as well
as parts for Toylander, which builds miniature
Land Rovers for aspiring young drivers.
Dave said: “Being on the park is the perfect
location for us to supply our services.
“We are always keen to support others in
their production and will consider any job no
matter how big.
