Colin Myers have signed for Aycliffe Cricket Club’s newly-promoted first team.
Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club have
made three new signings as the start
of the 2014 season approaches.
Having gained promotion from
NYSD Division Three at the first
attempt last season, Aycliffe were
looking to strengthen their playing
squad as they prepare for their first
season in Division Two.
Experienced all-rounder Colin Myers
has joined from Kimblesworth having
played in their Durham Senior Leaguewinning team.
Myers also played for Sunderland in
the North East Premier League setting
a league record of 160 for a ninthwicket partnership and has played
for Durham City and Finchley Cricket
Clubs.
With the ball, Myers has best figures
of four wickets for one run off 7 overs,
a Middlesex Premier League Record.
Pritpal Grewal has joined from
Penn Cricket Club in the Birmingham
League.
The 22-year-old off-spin bowler has
played for Penn since he was 13, and
is staying in Newton Aycliffe while he
completes a one-year placement as
part of his Pharmacy Degree. He has
also represented South Staffordshire
District and Aston University.
With the ball, Grewall has had a sixwicket haul and two five-wicket hauls
for Penn as well as winning the batting
averages in 2013.
The third signing is Darryn Bancroft
who has moved to Newton Aycliffe
with his family having played his
previous cricket in South Africa.
The 20-year-old played for the
Western Province Cricket Club for
seven years, prior to moving to Aycliffe,
and has had eight five-wicket hauls in

junior cricket, with best figures of five
for 14 off eight overs.
Club captain Chris Palmer said:
“These are exciting times for Newton
Aycliffe Cricket Club.
“The calibre of players we are
attracting, when added to our home
grown players and thriving junior
teams shows that we are continuing
to move in the right direction.”
The club are always looking for
new players, particularly for the
junior teams and outdoor training for
all ages from seven years upwards

BOWLS TEAMS COMPETE FOR
BILL POTTS MEMORIAL TROPHY
Eight teams competed for the Bill Potts
Memorial Trophy at the Oak Leaf Sports Complex.
It was the third annual Mixed Fours Open
competition organised by the Great Aycliffe
Indoor Bowls Club, sponsored by local funeral
directors Gordon Fletcher & Sons.
Pictured are the winners: John Deller, Sandra
Hind, Ronnie Dixon and Anne Bernard with
12 points and 37 shots, with the trophy being
presented by Gordon Fletcher.
Sue Young finished second with 9 points/30
shots, and in third place was Margaret Wigley
with 8 points/4 shots.
“Our thanks are also extended to Oak Leaf
Sports Complex for their support in hosting this
event,” said a spokesman for the club.
