Club ambitions…
Football stars aren’t renowned for
getting their hands dirty in the parks of
Sunday morning football, unless you’re
Boro goalkeeper Jason Steele.
The proud Newtonian is into his third
season as manager of Sunday morning
pub side Newton Aycliffe Working Men’s
Club.
Steele has this season teamed up with
his former school, Woodham Academy,
which is now providing the venue for
his team’s home fixtures in the Durham
and District Sunday League’s Premier
Division.
The Big Club team are the only Aycliffe
side left in the County Cup, with a trip to
Stockton Hardwick coming up on 5th
January, while they recently beat Pelton
in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
“We’re doing quite well in the cups this
year and it’d be nice to go all the way in
at least one of them,” says the Smoggy
shot-stopper.
“It does mean we’re still playing catchup in the league, where we’ve won three
and lost three, but we’re hoping to win
some silverware this season.”
