CHRISTMAS
TVat a glance
Aycliffe Today writer RACHEL
WRIGHT brings us a flavour of what
to expect on our TV screens over
Christmas…
It's almost that wonderful time of
year, as traditional as the mince pies
and turkey is the Christmas television,
when we get to settle back on the sofa
and enjoy all the festive telly treats on
offer.
From drama to films, to comedy
and our favourite soaps, there is
something for everyone as the
seasonal viewing unfolds.
With an array of choice this year on
all channels, we bring you a flavour of
AycliffeToday
the essential highlights to make sure
you don’t miss out on the ‘Christmas
crackers’ of the TV season of the year.
One of this season’s favourites
has got to be the Downton Abbey
Christmas special on ITV Christmas
Day at 8.30pm. Shirley MacLaine
returns as Cora’s mother Martha and
Sideways star Paul Giamatti makes
his Downton debut as her playboy
brother in the two-hour special, not to
be missed.
Another treat is Gangsta Granny on
BBC 1 which can be seen on Boxing
Day at 6.05pm. Joanna Lumley, Rob
Brydon and Miranda Hart bring to life
David Walliams’ best-selling children’s
novel, about a boy who goes to live
with his jewel thief gran, as they go
on an adventure together to steal the
crown jewels.
Christmas is coming and it’s The
Time of the Doctor! That’s the title of
the forthcoming Christmas Special
on the big day on BBC 1 at 7.30pm,
which will also see the Doctor’s latest
regeneration and Matt Smith’s final
appearance as he makes way for
Peter Capaldi.
