A responsibilities are anything but a facade is celebrating a Make Your Mark Awards win . BTS Facades and Fabrications won the Environment prize at the event – and the man tasked with bringing BTS up to environmental scratch , specification and sustainability manager David Crisan , said no one at the firm has needed convincing its commitment to carbon reduction is the right thing to do .

“ I don ’ t have to fight for implementation to happen – the managers and the directors are more than happy to say ‘ yes . go on ,” said David .
“ They help me implement these things , they have the initiative as well . It ’ s one of those contexts where everyone works together – I don ’ t have to make a portfolio before my plan gets approved .”
Measures BTS has taken so far include a zero-waste-to-landfill policy , a commitment to electric vehicles , more energy-efficient lighting and a remote energy-monitoring system that can analyse the company ’ s energy use .
It has also progressed with its B Corp certificate , which acknowledges high standards of social and environmental performance , transparency and accountability , and has EPDs – Environmental Product Declarations – for all products .
David added : “ We ’ re really genuine about our intentions . We ’ re not at a stage where we have to do it in terms of numbers and the impact we have , but we want to do it because it ’ s the right thing to do .
“ As a company , one of our pillars is integrity – and we want to respect that in terms of how we approach environment and sustainability .
“ We ’ ve looked at everything , down to using local suppliers for milk and having glass bottlers recycled to minimise plastic usage .
“ There ’ s more to do but the sky ’ s the limit , really . We have a net zero reduction plan by 2030 and we ’ re well on track with that .”
