Tech firm Excelpoint wins federation award

Aycliffe tech firm Excelpoint has won the North East Business and Product Innovation Award in the Federation of Small Businesses ( FSB ), Celebrating Small Business Awards .

The firm ’ s CEO Ian Brown received the gong at an event held at the Newcastle Gateshead Marriott Hotel this week .
“ I am delighted and surprised to be receiving this award which recognises all the hard work , dedication and commitment of the team at Excelpoint ,” said Ian .
“ The team has worked hard to establish the business as a leading light in the no-code software sector representing the region on a world stage .

ROMAN WIN QUEEN ’ S AWARD AGAIN

Newton Aycliffe-based shower designer and manufacturer Roman has been honoured with a Queen ’ s Award for International Trade – for a second time .

Roman is one of 225 organisations nationally to be recognised with a prestigious Queen ’ s Award for Enterprise , for its excellence in international trade .
The Queen ’ s Award is made on the recommendation of the Prime Minister after examination of applications by an Advisory Committee composed of leading individuals from industry , commerce , trade unions and government . The award winners are then conferred by Her Majesty The Queen .
As part of The Queen ’ s Award , Roman will be invited to attend a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales .

Each year , the FSB celebrates the achievements and contributions of smaller businesses with up to 250 employees and the self-employed through its UK awards scheme , which attracts over 8,000 entries .
The award acknowledges the work that has contributed towards Excelpoint establishing itself as one of the key players in the global no-code enterprise software sector .
It also recognises its role in helping organisations worldwide to streamline and automate business processes on average ten times faster than with bespoke development projects .
Excelpoint will represent the region at the national finals in Glasgow on May 19 .

HOUSEBUILDER EXPANDS Work is set to get underway on Teesside University ’ s new research and innovation facility , with a commitment to sustainability underpinning the development .
The £ 13.1m industry-led Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre ( NZIIC ) will support the ongoing drive for clean energy and position Teesside firmly at the heart of the UK ’ s green industrial revolution , providing a focus for major investment .
The NZIIC will be constructed using state-of-the-art techniques and materials to minimise the carbon footprint , including the deployment of new technologies and a zero-waste commitment .
GREGGS MASTERS A team of business students from Teesside University has won the Greggs Marketing Challenge , developing a successful campaign concept for the well-known bakery brand .
The competition , which took place at Newcastle Business School , saw North-East universities come together to tackle a real-world marketing challenge .
Teesside University ’ s team was made up of Mark Harrison , Charlie Williams and Adam Dalton , who are all studying undergraduate courses in business and marketing at Teesside University International Business School .
TUI TAKE-OFF AT TEESSIDE TUI , the UK ’ s biggest holiday firm , has welcomed its first Teesside Airport passengers in nine years as it launched its summer breaks to Majorca .
The first flight , which was fully booked , jetted out of the airport to Palma on May 10 , joining the airport ’ s busiest schedule since 2013 – the last time TUI touched down .
The service runs every Tuesday , providing brilliant breaks to the island , famed for its golden sands , waterfront villages and exciting nightlife .
