What’s your favourite building in the entire world? The building I’ve enjoyed most anywhere in the world doesn’t exist anymore. It was a 1960s beach change room at Leighton Beach in Perth, but only after some very wild weather ripped the steel roof sheets off it. The whole building has been torn down and replaced now, but for a few summers it was a brilliant concrete pavilion, open to the sky, with shadows cast around the place by the jarrah roof framing that survived the storm. It felt like this perfect, deferential celebration of its place – the beach, the sky, the heat and the sea breeze. You’ve had a late night working and you need a takeaway… what do you get? I’m lucky enough to work a few doors down from a nautical themed bar, so it’s pizza and a schooner at Rodney’s Bait n Tackle. It’s Sunday… how do you spend it? Sundays used to be for work – a bad habit learned at university. Now Sundays are for the beach, for catching up with friends and family, getting some culture or going to the pub and sitting in the sun.
