What is the project you have worked on
that you are most proud of?
The project I’m most proud of is always the one I’m working
on at that given moment. But, if I had to choose, it would be
the White Bay Cruise Terminal. It was a brave project, a brave
team and a real breakthrough project for me personally.
How has winning the
Emerging Architect Prize
changed your life?
As someone who works in a large-practice
environment and in large teams, it’s been a
wonderful acknowledgement of more than
just an individual. This acknowledgement
extends to so many others who’ve been of
such influence in my professional life: all of
the mentors and team members who were
part of the creation of our work together
have all had a bit of a pat on the back as a
result. It’s been great to celebrate together.

HOW DO YOU LIKE
YOUR DRINK?
Scotch on the rocks.
It’s hot in Australia.
I love city-making and public projects and that will be the focus of any
of my ideal projects. They’re challenging and highly constrained, but it’s
exactly where architects need to be, and so this is the most worthwhile
endeavour for me in the long run. My attitude is that each project is what
you make of it to a large extent. Not all projects start out as a dream –
and often circumstances can not be in your favour – but the brave decision
is to change that circumstance and to try to make them dream-worthy.
