another expat motorbike death from
head injuries
hua hin, THAILAND
The tragic loss of yet another resident expat to a motorbike accident last
weekend will ultimately end up being just another statistic except to his
family and friends, but the death of Xavier Macors (Marco to all who knew
him) should represent a wake up call to everyone who rides motorbikes
or scooters here. Marco died when he collided with a lamp post near Soi
94, and initial reports suggest that this was at the relatively low speed of
about 40 kph; however he was not wearing a crash helmet, and it was his
head injuries that proved fatal.
It is not clear exactly how the accident happened, as other than a Thai man
riding a scooter who Marco passed shortly before the collision, there were
no others who were involved in the accident nor witnesses; it is believed
the crash occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday 8th November with
emergency services on the scene soon after, although it is believed Marco
died on impact. Marco’s father was due to arrive in Hua Hin as we were
going to print, and we would like to express our sincere condolences to
him and the rest of Marco’s family and friends.
Unfortunately the police are not allowed to issue a death certificate to
anyone other than family members, and without this his body could not
be released for funeral arrangements, so we are unable to bring you
information on any services; for those readers who wish to find out we
suggest visiting the Railway Tavern in Soi 88 to enquire, as it is likely that
by the time of our next issue it will already have occurred.
Marco was 45 and had been hoping to start a family with his long time
girlfriend Fon; we will all miss his happy face and cheery personality.
