It also flies when you are doing a bit of decorating, as I found to my cost when the time suddenly arrived to prepare this weeks ‘To Hull and Back’ without one single glimmer of inspiration. Obviously talking about the weather is a non starter, because to talk about it would involve moaning which, (see last weeks page), is not allowed. Resorting to the newspapers for ideas also proved to be a non starter. They had all been used to cover the kitchen floor while pasting wallpaper. And in any case August is traditionally supposed to be a bad month for news isn’t it? Certainly there seems to have been even more media attention than usual on some of our younger Royals, who don’t seem to be able to do anything right when it comes to work. They are damned if they want a career and damned if they don’t. At least British newspapers do have the option of making scathing remarks about their monarchy. Goodness knows how Thai newspapers manage to fill their August issues. The only hope was to look back at what was happening - or not as the case may be - this time last year, and lo’ and behold August 10th was the date of the Great Bintabaht Fire, which pretty much destroyed Viking and Cheers bars. Just a month before the Great Fire, in July 2013, AWOL launched an appeal for contributions to the Hua Hin Bar Area Project. The idea being to build a record of Hua Hins’ bar scene past and present, with names, locations, details of changes over the years in names and ownership, and where possible any juicy bits of info on the owners. As we all know only too well the bar scene in any Thai resort can change rapidly, and Hua Hins’ is no exception. Memories quickly fade. But unlike some other resorts which shall remain nameless Hua Hin still has a relatively short history of bars, especially farang ones. It also has a fair number of expats who have been around for 15 years or more. A handful of bars have even remained the Cheap room for rent from just 350 baht 0915094729 Th/Eng 0805626735 Swe/Eng Soi 94 (1st left after 7-11) same without changing hands for that period of time, which is roughly the period we had hoped to cover in o
