another drugs gang
nabbed in hua hin

Last Saturday, 10th May, Thai police swooped on a gang who had been
selling drugs in Hua Hin and arrested them. The gang had been operating
out of the Caddy Shack bar in Soi Selekan, and those arrested included the
owner, Mrs. Jintana, 45, also known as Tookta, Mr Abraham Kamara, 32,
a Sierra Leone citizen, and five lady boys aged between 20 and 27, some or
all of whom worked at the bar.
The arrests were carried out by Pol. Col. Chatchai Rienmek, vice director
of Prachaup Khiri Kan provincial police, Pol Col. Chinnavorn Jieasakul,
director of the narcotics suppression bureau and the head of operations,
Pol.Lt.Col Patcharapong Lopart, deputy director along with other officers.
They recovered bags of crystal meth, cocaine, marijuana, a Toyota
Fortuner, two motorbikes, gold chains, and 3 golden rings found in the
possession of those arrested. The police officers secretly purchased drugs
for 25,000 baht after they were tipped off that drugs were being sold in the
entertainment area.
Pol Col Chatchai said that their investigation revealed that Mrs. Jintana
purchased the drugs from Mr. Abraham, who lives in Sukumvit Soi 93 in
Bangkok, and transferred money to his Thai wife’s bank account. The lady
boys then sold the drugs to tourists in the area. A warrant for the arrest
of Mr Abraham’s wife has also been issued, as well as a request to freeze
the assets of all involved. According to reports, all of those arrested have
confessed to their crimes, and are now awaiting the full weight of Thai law,
which is notoriously harsh on drug offenders.
There have been several notable arrests for serious crimes, particularly
drugs related, in Hua Hin in recent months, but it is unclear whether this
is simply better policing or indicates an increase in these types of crime in
the area - without meaningful crime figures being made available locally
we must hope its the former.
