Either to refer to a bundle of structures, such as nerve or muscle fibres, or to mean a separately published instalment of a book or other printed work. It is the latter definition which is relevant, as we take a look at the Oxford English Dictionary. Not the concise version (which is still affordable) but the full work in book form. First published in 10 volumes between 1884 and 1928, the ‘OED’ as it is known aims to provide the origins and history of words, as well as their meanings and how those meanings may have changed over the years.
