Advertise here from only 40 baht per week to hull and back Mags Meanderings: From Som Tam To Mushy Peas hot(mail) under the collar This weeks’ THAB has to be fairly brief, and rattled off in double quick time. The reason being my problems with cyberspace. For once I can’t even blame my IT woes on Hulls’ own independent telephone company, Kingston Communications, because I freed myself from their local landline and broadband monopoly some time ago when 3G became a viable and cheaper option. No, the problems are partly of my own making. Because from day one in my e mailing history I have resolutely stuck with one e mail provider. There have been occasional half hearted forays into alternative addresses of course, but none lasted. Hotmail had become so familiar and easy to navigate there seemed little point in maintaining two separate e mail accounts. Many of you will now be nodding sagely. You have been wise enough to double up e mail accounts as a safeguard. And now that mine is floating around in cyberspace, together with its’ contact list and personal files, I can see why! But as our use of the internet has developed over the last decade or so, the scope of what we can actually do with it has also increased. There is often talk amongst expats and ex expats, about what they miss from the home country, or what they miss about Thailand, depending on where they are looking at things from. These discussions also extend to the most noticeable changes when they do return home, and over recent years one of the most significant changes has to be our dependance on the internet for everyday tasks. Even in Hull we shop, bank, sell and complete surveys online. We read newspapers and place advertisements and announcements in them online. We can also order our prescriptions and sign petitions online, all the time of course giving out our e mail addresses. From 2021 we will even be completing the UK census online. We have a new ad size! eighth page Prices 4 issues: 1,800 baht (450 baht per issue) 13 issues: 4,940 baht (380 baht per issue) 52 issues: 15,600 baht (300 baht per issue) All prices based on advance payment Please contact us on 081 649 8361 or [email protected] for more information Dream Guesthouse Cheap room for rent from just 350 baht 0915094729 Th/Eng 0805626735 Swe/Eng Soi 94 (1st left after 7-11) Most significantly we are constantly under pressure from our utility suppliers to ‘go paperless’, with financial incentives to receive our bills online. And so it is that my gas, electricity, internet and mobile phone accounts have now been consigned to cyberspace, together with my TV licence! Lesson learned - don’t put all your eggs in one basket. And this weeks’ word is ‘uvula’ which at first glance looks as if it should have something to do with eggs. In fact it is the name for that bit of wobbly flesh which dangles down at the back of your throat.
