With the third dry weekend in a row due to elections, April is not starting
well for many, but this weekend does see the annual Hua Hin Cricket Sixes,
now in it’s 19th year, being held at the Dusit Thani Resort, and running
from 5th to 10th April, with over 250 players, including 8 former Australian
Test greats and current Australian state players, with the well known
names featuring Australian legend Craig McDermott along with his Test
colleagues Shaun Graf, Dutchy Holland, Michael Taylor and Mick Lewis.
Matches start at 8am and there’s always a lot of fun to be had. For more

The following weekend will be anything but dry in every respect, as the
huge national celebration of the Thai New Year, Songkran will start to
crank up; officially the holiday takes place from the 13th to 15th April, but
as the first of these is a Sunday you can expect the town to start filling up
in the week preceding this, and don’t be too surprised if this year in Hua
Hin the festivities start earlier and go on longer. Due to this, and to give
all of us here at AWOL a break, there will be no issue of AWOL next week
on Friday 11th April, and all advertisers will have their adverts extended
where applicable. The next issue will thus be available on Friday 18th April.
For anyone intending to travel on the roads during the Songkran festivities,
please be advised that this is generally regarded as the most dangerous
period of the year to do so - please stay safe and have a wonderful time.
