parts of hua hin not getting water

Drought conditions are being experienced already in some parts of Hua
Hin, not because of a lack of water available to the city, but because the
infrastructure is not good enough to get the water to them. Borfai is one
area that is particularly affected, with residents in parts of that district
receiving little or no city water now for over two months, instead having
to get water delivered in trucks at their own expense.
The Hua Hin Water Authority has acknowledged the problem and is
awaiting approval for plans to install some form of pumping station to
alleviate the situation, but no timescale has been given. The problem has
been in existence during the dry season for several years now, but with the
ongoing building boom the authorities are always struggling to keep pace,
while priority of supply seems to be focused towards the town centre and
the big hotels and businesses.
According to the Department of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation
(DDPM) the water levels in reservoirs in the northeastern, western, and
southern regions of Thailand remain unchanged, at 70-80 % of their capacity;
the same as last year, while eight provinces in the north of Thailand are
already officially in drought, with reserves in the dams in those areas only
at around 50%, and with a scheduled release of water for the farmlands
due.
