I couldn’ t even speak when you turned away from the mirror and smiled A beautiful woman now stood in the bedroom that still belonged to my child All day my mind wandered back to skinned knees, pigtails, and your first love that hurt Mom had to poke me in the ribs to bring me back before you left the church The reception was over, and Mom cried as you went off on your honeymoon I went upstairs, hoping to find my little girl still in her room I picked up poor old Teddy, and looked for you in all of your memories I smiled, thinking about the sweet babies you’ d bring home to Mom and me What made me cry when I let your hand go today I was remembering when you’ d dress up and played You had my big white hanky on your head, and you were holding dandelions
