It has been a really creative term in Textiles with lots of different design and make activities taking place within the Design & Technology Faculty .
Year 7 students have learnt the basics of hand embroidery by creating a functional and cute key-ring . Year 8 students focused on the ‘ Day of the Dead ’ Mexican festival , experimenting with ‘ smart ’ Thermo-Chromic dyes which allowed their decorative skull cushions to change colour with heat . Now that really is ‘ smart ’! Finally our Year 9 students enjoyed learning about the colourful technique of Tie-Dye when they designed and made a set of three juggling balls . For two of our Year 9 classes there was also the added opportunity of creating drawstring bags with embroidered logos using the departments Janome computerised embroidery machines as well as a simple , but fun , mobile phone charging stand .
Miss Boulter has been really impressed by some of the talent demonstrated this year and hope that the students work inspires others to get creative .
