Aviation Photojournal USAF 70th ANNIVERSARY - SPECIAL ISSUE | Page 12

Welcome to our special issue celebrating 70 years of the United States Air Force! Such a momentous occasion certainly deserves its own issue. We at Aviation Photojournal enjoy a close relationship with the USAF and it was definitely a fun project to put together this photo essay showing off the wide range of capabilities of America's Air Force.

Initially formed as part of the United States Army on August 1, 1907, the United States Air Force was officially born as a separate branch of the military on September 18, 1947. Easily the largest and most technologically advanced air force in the world, the USAF operates across the entire globe and in space as well.

With over 5,000 aircraft, 400 intercontinental ballistic missiles and 170 satellites under its command, the USAF is a modern military marvel. In this issue, we celebrate the brave men and women of the USAF, their dedication to their mission and their role in the advancement of democracy across the world.
