This F-14A, 159437, was one of two VF-32 Tomcats involved in the Second Gulf of Sidra Incident. On January 4, 1989, while flying from the deck of the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), they were engaged by a pair of Libyan MiG-23s which repeatedly showed hostile intent. This Tomcat, crewed by Lt Herman C. Cook and LCdr Steven P. Collins, downed one MiG-23 with an AIM-7 Sparrow. The lead F-14A, 159610, crewed by Cdr Joseph B. Connelly and Cdr Leo F. Enwright, brought down the first MiG-23 via AIM-9 Sidewinder after a pair of AIM-7s failed to lock on to their target. 159437 is currently stored at AMARG in Museum Hold status. It is hoped it will one day be displayed aboard the USS John F. Kennedy once CV-67 becomes a museum ship.
