THE FIRST Japanese designed and built stealth combat aircraft took to the skies for its maiden flight on April 22, 2016. The ATD-X (Advanced Technology Demonstrator-X), or X-2 Shinshin (Spirit of the heart) as it is known, took off from Mitsubishi's facility at the Nagoya Aerosystems Works Airport. The X-2 is slated to replace the Mitsubishi F-2 in the Japanese Air Self Defense Force's (JASDF) inventory. These exclusive images were captured by Aviation Photojournal during this historic first flight.
