Alan Shapiro leans from the cockpit of the American Airpower Museum’s C-47 Second Chance. In the months after D-Day, Shapiro joined the 316th Troop Carrier Group, 37th Troop Carrier Squadron, flying vital airborne resupply and airdrop missions across war-torn Europe. He supported operations following Market Garden, braved the bitter winter skies of the Battle of the Bulge, and later took part in Operation Varsity in March 1945, continuing through VE Day as Allied forces pushed toward victory.
