There are times here at Aviation Photojournal when we are lucky enough to be able to bring you an aviation event that is so special and unique, that it deserves its own special issue. Flying above the beaches of Normandy with some amazing aircraft to commemorate 74 years since the D-Day landings certainly qualifies!
Our special contributor, Mike Killian, traveled to France not only to witness this epic event, but to be a part of it - one of the only photographers who were invited to participate. From his perch on the ramp of a USAF C-130, Mike was able to capture some evocative imagery. The sight of modern tank-busting A-10s flying over the beaches where 74 years ago, determined and brave Allied troops came ashore is enough to give anyone goosebumps.
We hope you enjoy this special issue and take some time to reflect on the awe inspiring sacrifice this event commemorated.
