Welcome to our first issue of the Aviation PhotoCrew magazine!
When Eric Coeckelberghs, the founding father of
the Aviation PhotoCrew, and I began planning this first issue we knew it had to be something truly special – a magazine that would not only showcase the artistry of aviation photography, but also set the tone for what this publication stands for.
In the aviation community, the Royal International Air Tattoo( RIAT) is more than an event. It’ s the pinnacle of military aviation gatherings – the world’ s largest stage for aerial theatre, operational capability, and multinational friendship. In 2025, with its historic firsts, record attendance, and the inspired“ Eyes in the Skies” theme, we had the perfect canvas for our launch edition. This magazine is dedicated entirely to RIAT 2025 – its aircraft, its people, and the moments that made it unforgettable – seen through the lenses of our camera’ s from the ground at the airshow, but also in one of the most unique positions possible: airborne aboard the legendary Pink Skyvan SC 7. From the open ramp of the Skyvan, we’ ve been able to capture the participants from perspectives few ever experience. Shooting from the air is completely different from working on the crowdline; it’ s about timing, geometry, and movement in three dimensions. Against the clouds or the Gloucestershire countryside we tried to catch that perfect wing angle and sunlight glint before the moment’ s gone.
In this first edition of the Aviation PhotoCrew magazine every image is paired with context and its place in RIAT 2025. We’ ve aimed to capture not just motion, but emotion— the pride of crews, the precision of pilots, and the atmosphere of the world’ s premier military airshow from this unique viewpoint. For us as photographers, RIAT 2025 was a dream assignment. For you as readers, we hope this special edition is both a memento of the show and a statement of what Aviation PhotoCrew Magazine will represent: passion, access, quality, and the power of sharing aviation’ s most inspiring moments from vantage points few come to see. Welcome to our first flight together. Now, turn the page – and let the skies of RIAT 2025 unfold.
