RIAT 2025 Reaches New Heights

RIAT 2025: A Global Celebration of Flight, Innovation and Partnership RAF Fairford once again became the focus of the aviation world this July as the RIAT 2025 lifted into action beneath bright Gloucestershire skies. Over three days, more than 175,000 spectators witnessed 224 aircraft from 27 different nations, reaffirming RIAT’ s reputation as the largest and most diverse military airshow on Earth.
“ Eyes in the Skies” This year’ s theme—“ Eyes in the Skies”— highlighted the vital role of reconnaissance, surveillance and early-warning aircraft in both defence and humanitarian operations. It was a reminder that airpower is not just about speed or firepower but about awareness, information and cooperation. The tone was set early by the Royal Air Force’ s E-7 Wedgetail AEW1, making its first public appearance in British skies. The 737 based command and control( C2) aircraft performed a formation flypast with the Red Arrows, symbolising a new era for the RAF’ s airborne early-warning mission. Group Captain Osselton, programme director for the E-7, called the moment“ a celebration of innovation and teamwork— the future of RAF capability taking flight.”
The Red Arrows themselves made history with their first full display powered entirely by Sustainable Aviation Fuel( SAF)— a global first for a fast-jet aerobatic team. Their vivid smoke trails, now produced using renewable Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil rather than diesel, became a powerful emblem of a greener aviation future.
Allies and Airpower RIAT has always been a stage for partnership, and 2025 brought together air forces from across the globe. Forty-one air chiefs attended, reflecting the show’ s diplomatic value as much as its spectacle.
