Sikorsky S-70B Seahawk

The Hellenic Navy’ s S 70B Aegean Hawk helicopters represent one of the most capable maritime aviation assets in Southeastern Europe. Based on the American Sikorsky SH 60B Seahawk, the Aegean Hawk is tailored specifically for Greek naval requirements, blending advanced anti submarine and anti surface warfare systems with exceptional reliability and range. Operating from Kotroni Naval Air Base and deployed aboard Hydra class and modernized Elli class frigates, these helicopters form the backbone of Greece’ s naval helicopter force. Introduced in the mid 1990s and expanded with later batches, the Aegean Hawk fleet carries advanced sensors including dipping sonar, radar, and electro optical systems. Armed with Penguin anti
ship missiles, torpedoes, and machine guns, the aircraft provides the Hellenic Navy with a decisive edge in maritime patrol, interdiction, and anti submarine operations across the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. Their ability to integrate directly with shipboard combat systems allows for rapid information sharing and coordinated strikes. The Hawks are also essential for search and rescue, medical evacuation, and support of special operations units. With the arrival of new MH 60R Seahawks, the fleet is transitioning into a modernized, multi role force. Together, the S 70B and upcoming MH 60R helicopters ensure that Greece maintains a strong and flexible maritime aviation capability for years to come.
