Embraer EMB-145H
The Hellenic Air Force operates the Embraer EMB‐145H AEW & C as one of its most advanced surveillance and command‐and‐control aircraft. These platforms serve with the 380th Airborne Early Warning & Surveillance Squadron under the 112 Combat Wing at Elefsina Air Base, the permanent home of Greece’ s AEW & C fleet. Equipped with the Saab Erieye radar system, housed in the distinctive dorsal“ plank” above the fuselage, the aircraft provide long‐range detection of air and maritime targets across the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.
The EMB‐145H plays a crucial role in airspace monitoring, national air defense coordination, and real‐time data‐linking with fighter aircraft, naval assets, and ground stations. It supports missions ranging from air policing to search‐and‐rescue and maritime security. Introduced in the early 2000s, the fleet has participated in numerous national and NATO surveillance exercises and has undergone regular avionics and systems upgrades. While capable of temporary deployments for training or operations, Elefsina remains the central operating base for Greece’ s AEW & C capability.
