Hellenic Air Force

T-6 Texan II

The Hellenic Air Force operates the Beechcraft / Raytheon T‐6A Texan II as its primary basic and advanced training aircraft, forming the core of Greece’ s modern pilot‐training system. All T‐6A aircraft are permanently based at the 120 Air Training Wing in Kalamata, the country’ s central hub for flight instruction. The fleet is shared between 361 Air Training Squadron“ Mystras” and 362 Air Training Squadron“ Nestor,” which conduct Phase II and Phase III training. Cadets learn aerobatics, formation flying, navigation, instrument procedures, and introductory tactical skills before progressing to the M‐346 Master or frontline fighters such as the F‐16. Since entering service in the early 2000s, the Texan
II fleet has flown thousands of training sorties and participated in numerous Hellenic Air Force open days and public demonstrations. The aircraft underwent scheduled avionics and safety upgrades during mid‐life modernization, ensuring readiness well into the 2030s. The T‐6A’ s reliability, manageable operating cost, and modern cockpit make it ideal for shaping future HAF aviators.
The Texan II also supports Team Daedalus, the HAF’ s aerobatic demonstration team founded in 2005. Using standard fleet aircraft, Daedalus performs precision aerobatic routines at airshows across Greece, showcasing both the aircraft’ s agility and the professionalism of HAF instructors.
