Italian Air Force

Leonardo HH139

The Leonardo HH139, bearing the tail number 15‐41, is a key utility and search‐and‐rescue helicopter of the Italian Air Force. Operated by the 15th Stormo, the HH139 represents a cornerstone of the Aeronautica Militare’ s rotary‐wing capability, supporting both military and civilian missions while complementing more advanced SAR platforms such as the HH‐101A. Powered by twin Pratt & Whitney PT6C‐67C engines and equipped with a modern glass cockpit, the HH139 offers excellent reliability, performance, and situational awareness. Its NVG‐compatible avionics, advanced autopilot, and stable handling
characteristics make it well suited for demanding operations, including all‐weather search and rescue, medical evacuation, and disaster‐relief missions. Beyond SAR duties, the HH139 also performs utility, liaison, and light transport roles, frequently operating in support of civil authorities for emergency response and humanitarian assistance. As part of the 15th Stormo’ s fleet, aircraft 15‐41 highlights the Italian Air Force’ s emphasis on versatile, proven, and efficient helicopters capable of ensuring rapid response and operational readiness both in Italy and abroad.
