AH-64A / D Apache
The McDonnell Douglas AH‐64A Apache, together with the more advanced AH‐64D Apache Longbow, remains a key element of Greece’ s attack helicopter force. Introduced in the mid‐1990s, the Apache made Greece the first European nation to operate the type, significantly strengthening the Hellenic Army’ s anti‐armor and close‐air‐support capabilities. The A‐model helicopters, though early variants, remain effective and are armed with Hellfire missiles, Hydra 70 rockets, and the M230 30 mm chain gun. They support live‐fire training, day‐and‐night
pilot instruction, and participation in major NATO exercises. The AH‐64D Longbow enhances the fleet with modern avionics, a digital cockpit, and the Longbow fire‐control radar, improving situational awareness, all‐weather performance, and coordinated operations. Together, both variants support armored units during tactical maneuvers and maintain high readiness across the demanding Aegean region. Proven, durable, and cost‐efficient, Greece’ s Apache fleet remains a vital pillar of national defense.
