Welcome to Yerevan
Yerevan Basics :
Language: The only official language of Armenia is the Armenian language, which uses its own unique alphabet. However, due to the Soviet past, the majority of the population of Armenia can understand and speak Russian, while the younger generation also understands and speaks English.
Currency: The national currency of Armenia is the Armenian dram (AMD) which is subdivided into the luma (1 dram equals 100 luma). Due to the low exchange rate, lumas have not been seen in circulation since the mid-1990s. You can check the exchange rate on the official website of the Central Bank of Armenia , or with specific banks and exchange points.
Spending: Bring cash and credit cards. However, use of a credit card may be limited to larger shops, hotels, some restaurants and entertainment venues. Thus, travelers should keep some amount of cash in Armenian drams. ATMs and money exchange points are available both in Yerevan and in regional centers.
Telecommunication: Currently there are three mobile phone operators and major internet service providers in Armenia: Viva Cell MTS , Orange and Beeline. These networks are widely modern and reliable with offices and shops located throughout Yerevan and regional centers where one can buy a mobile phone card or get appropriate assistance.
Internet Connection: Internet connections are widely available in Yerevan, including WiFi access in hotels, bars, cafes and other public places.
