AGBU Chapters in Egypt and the Rest of Africa

At present, the District Committee of Egypt comprises two local chapters, based in Cairo and Alexandria. In 1976, Satenig Tchaker, an AGBU member and widow of the AGBU leader Djanig Tchaker, willed her mansion to the Cairo AGBU. Located in Cairo’s fashionable Zamalek neighborhood, the Tchaker residence was a sprawling, nearly forty-five-thousand-square-foot building. Mrs. Tchaker died in 1982, but it took the Cairo chapter until 1996 to resolve all the legal problems connected with the utilization of her mansion.
