The other challenge facing the AGBU is, without a doubt, the evolving situation in the diaspora, especially in North America and Europe. The population movements observable for the past few decades have led to a new configuration of the diaspora, with the massive settlement of Armenians in large numbers in the Western countries, but also in the Russian Federation. A Moscow-Paris-New York-Los Angeles axis is plainly taking shape. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the migratory movement toward the West has intensified, encompassing, this time, many Armenians from Armenia and elsewhere in the Caucasus. In the melting pot of the Western world, new generations of Armenians have sprung up, with profiles and needs that, often, diverge from those of their compatriots in the Near East. The examples are quite diverse: children born of mixed marriages, people who do not have a command of the language of their forefathers, people who have no experience of an Armenian environment, and so on.
