Around The Clubs
AV evening at MFFC, Pretoria
Jeff Morris LRPS APSSA
There were disappointments and a pleasant surprise at the Magalies Foto
Fun Club August evening. Let me mention the two disappointments first. The
number of entries was way down from last time to a total of only twelve and
there was an alarming lack of new work amongst them. The good news was
that all the winners came from new creations. This heartening fact tells me
that the standard of productions is improving and what was good enough
before, is now no longer competitive. Skills amongst our workers are
improving rapidly, considering where we started from last year.
Our competent judges for the evening were Elana van der Walt LPSSA
(right) and Willie van
der Post APSSA. They
shared some of their
AV work with us
through the evening
and gave positive,
helpful comments in
their critiques of our
entries.
The winners were as
follows: Beginners (one
star) Tree of the
Kalahari from Valmai le
Grange, Intermediate
(three star) Ria Katzke
LRPS APSSA with Tuffy
and Silent White Nights
from Annelise de Jager (left). Silent White Nights, a stunning show about
Antarctica, was the overall winner for the evening.
Making W.A.V.E.S.
Tony Scammells
The day dawned bright and clear for the August meeting of the W.A.V.E.S.
AV Group, but there were no complaints as members began to arrive,
anticipating the second excursion of W.A.V.E.S. into the challenge of
"Making an AV in a day". To the uninitiated this might seem an impossible
task, as often, it might take weeks, months or even years, but in the mid
Nineteen-Nineties in Hillside Hall, Bath, teams of six members produced six
sequences on set themes in one session.
