For the music I wanted something that was swashbuckling, adventurous and
slightly daft. I also had those flame images, so that was my staring point, a
track from the film "Top Gun" called "Through the fire". I did consider using a
track from the same film, "Take my breath away", but it was perhaps too
associated with a recent car advert (I can remember the advert and the music,
but not the product, what does that tell you? Senility probably). I added to that
the "Top Gun anthem" and then, with the swashbuckling motif, I added some
music from "Pirates of the Caribbean". I ended up with 11 different bits of
those tracks to splice together as seamlessly as I could.
I decided on a brief script, I
could have explained a lot, but I
decided to let the pictures tell
the story. The narration was
recorded on my Edirol R09
portable recorder, only 5 short
slices in practice. I did my usual
trick, write out the script, divide
it up into paragraphs and then
narrate
each
paragraph
individually, each several times
so that I can chose the one I like
best later. Finally I added sound
effects, some cheering crowds, flames, water and so on.
The nature of the event dictated fairly quick changes and in the end most
slides stayed on the
