AV News 178 - November 2009
In 2004 I bought a Nikon D70 and
was immediately hooked. With the
help of my good mate Ken Doney I
eventually produced a simple
digital AV.
Then with Kate’s encouragement
I resurrected The Quiet One and
started to think about the
photographs. We had some
enjoyable trips to Liverpool for the
obvious photos but I needed some
more interesting pictures.
I had two breaks : firstly Kate
spotted a lunch time Sitar
concert at Sheffield University
which I obtained permission
to photograph and secondly I
mentioned to Dave Wilcox
that I had read somewhere
that George had given a
house to the Hare Krishna
movement. Dave did some
digging on the Internet and
found Bhaktivedanta Manor
near Watford, a Hare Krishna
Temple: thank you Dave.
I went down to the house - the Devotees were really helpful: they let me take
as many pictures as I wanted and I was invited to stay for a ceremony. This
was a very moving experience – the Hare Krishna chant lasted for 30 min
and by the end I was nearly converted!
The pictures provided a perfect finish
for the AV over the story of George’s
illness and death.
I was booked to do an AV show at
Smethwick P.S. in March2008 which gave
me a target to get the sequence finished.
The Quiet One was a joy to produce and
was worth all the time and work. I’m so
grateful to Ken and Kate for their constant
patience and support and I was delighted
that Ken was able to see it before he died.
He congratulated me and said
“welcome to the world of digital AV – it’s
about time!”
