The Story Of The Three Teds
Lilian Webb AIPF
Once upon a time, Little Ted set out on his Big Adventures, while Big Ted set out
on Little Adventures, but they have been joined by Irish Ted. They were all to be
found drinking Guinness in the birth place of Guinness - Celbridge!
This followed the holding of the
Irish Photographic Federation’s
National AV Championships
and 4th International AV
Competition on 19th & 20th
October.
It was hosted by East
Leinster AV Group and
organised by the IPF AV
Group Committee.
The judges were Jill K. Bunting CPAGB & John Smith APAGB CPAGB.
19 sequences were entered in the Nationals and both Jill and John
commented on each with constructive advice. Novice - 1st and best 1st time
entrant - Diarmuid O’Donnchadha, from Malahide Camera Club with ‘Lanzarotte’.
Intermediate - 1st - Pearl Walsh, East Leinster AV Group, with ‘Where
Memories Linger Still’. There was a new specially commissioned trophy
presented for the first time this year for the award of 'Best Sound Production'
which Pearl also won. The trophy was commissioned by the IPF AV Group
Committee by Michael Killen. Club - The Andorra Trophy was won by Shannon
Camera Club with ‘A Jaunt in Killarney’. Advanced - The winner was Edwin
Bailey, Shannon Camera Club, with ‘A Sense of Autumn’, and he also won the
Kieran O’Loughlin Trophy. Edwin’s wife, Frances had an exhibition of her
paintings at the venue.
There were 30 entries in the International Section from South Africa,
England, Wales & Northern & Southern Ireland. The Gold Medal went to Linda
& Edgar Gibbs with ‘A Rich Legacy’, while Malcolm Imhoff won the audience
vote for ‘Soul Music’. As Richard Brown was over for the weekend, he kindly
brought back the medals and presented the winners with them. Attendances
were up on both days as was the attendance of 40 at the Gala Dinner, which
ended in a sing-song until the wee hours! The social aspect is a valuable part of
the weekend as many only meet up together at this event annually. It was great
to have attendances from England, Germany, our friends from NIPA and AV
enthusiasts from many parts of the country.
Before the announcement of the prizes and showing the winning sequences,
Jill & John showed some of their sequences along with showing how they made
them both visually and sound wise. Jill & John also gave a workshop in
Enniscorthy prior to the championships and were looked after royally by
Enniscorthy Camera Club and stayed on following the championships at the
home of Big Ted to see a little more of the country.
All in all, many friendships were renewed and others formed and there were
three very happy bears at the end!
