AV News 183 - February 2011
Pam - Our first task was
to organise files. This
was something I had
wanted to learn to do
properly for a while and
it became clear that I
was not the only student
who needed guidance
in this area.
After the big screen
demonstration, we each
practiced with our own
images, with individual
help and guidance from Suzanne and Howard as required.
The basic sequence production processes were demonstrated and then
practiced, step by step, throughout the action packed day. Comfort breaks
were brief, because the students themselves wanted to get back to practice
what they had learned.
It was not only advantageous to have such a well structured and organised
day, but it was invaluable to have two experts, who could impart knowledge
in such a clear and explicit way. They kept to their planned programme, but
adapted it to the abilities and needs of their audience.
As expected, I was not able to try out all the topics demonstrated, because
of my lack of software, but I learned enough to continue at home. Also,
additional leaflets were freely available, which gave more detailed
information and Howard's low priced tutorial CD-ROMs could be purchased.
It was particularly interesting and inspiring to see Suzanne's completed AV
presentation of 'Harris' emerge at the end of the day from the images
demonstrated at each production stage. And, when summing up, the
importance of a good filing system for our pictures and a sound knowledge of
our computers was strongly emphasised. So, this will be my next step - and
then I may join the Wilmslow Guild's Audio-Visual Group!
Glyn - All told, I think that the day was a great success. Thanks to Suzanne
and Howard and also to Margaret Curry for keeping everyone supplied with
refreshments.
Postscript from Howard
The above dayschool concentrated mainly on computer familiarity and the
pictorial side of AV. We are considering running a similar day, probably next
autumn, which will concentrate mainly on the audio side.
Keep an eye on www.wilmslowguildav.org.uk if you are interested, or
contact Howard Gregory.
Wilmslow Guild also runs courses and dayschools on basic computing,
keeping your computer tidy and introduction to digital photography (which
also includes what to do with your pictures on your computer.)
